Chesterfield Royal Hospital is around one mile outside of the town centre and is only a few miles from junction 29 of the M1.

There are many ways to get to our hospital including by car, bus, taxi or by walking.

Car parking signage is clearly displayed showing how to pay and where you can park.

Terminals to pay are located in the main hospital entrance and car parks six and seven. The terminals accept cash, card, and payment via a mobile phone app.

You will need to pay before leaving the car park by entering your registration number into the terminal and paying the rate depending on the number of hours stayed on site.

See our car parking page for current rates and more information

Our hospital is well served by public transport, with many direct services.

The Stagecoach Website will show you live bus departure times, route planners and the ability to search for bus timetables.

The Travel Derbyshire On Demand DRT service is a flexible public transport service that allow you to book your journeys for the specific time you wish to travel, making it a personalised and more efficient way to use public transport for your journey to the hospital. Goldcard travel is free after 09:30 Monday to Friday and all day on Saturday

Patients can travel on Stagecoach Buses for free with an appointment letter before 9.30am. Find out more on the Stagecoach website.

In 2024, 14 volunteer drivers carried out 4,115 hours - transporting over 43,000 passengers!

The Royal Rider is a free service run by our volunteers who take visitors to whichever area they require.

They can also collect visitors from the area they have visited.

They're there for patients and visitors with mobility issues, supported by Chesterfield Royal Hospital Trust Charitable Funds.

The service runs from 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 2pm on weekends.

It's run entirely by our volunteers who give their time freely, doing an incredible job to support all of our services - we genuinely couldn't do it without them. If you need the Royal Rider then ask at the main entrance or call 07468 717352.
