The “Inspire Activity” oncology prehabilitation and therapy service provides targeted prehabilitation, therapy and management advice to people affected by cancer. The team provides a variety of different programmes to support people affected by different cancers, to improve their treatment outcomes.

Inspire Health and Wellbeing sessions

Working with the Macmillan Information and Support Centre nursing team we provide a monthly health and wellbeing event called “Inspire” health and wellbeing sessions. These events are for anyone affected by a recent cancer diagnosis and are held in the NGS Macmillan Information and Support Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

In these sessions, we offer advice and support to look after your emotional and physical wellbeing, including advice about healthy eating.  We can help you to find services local to you that will help you to improve your quality of life during and after cancer treatment.

To book a place call 01246 516406 or e-mail: CRHFT.macmillaninfo@nhs.net

For people undergoing breast cancer treatment, we offer a live webinar to help you prepare for an upcoming breast cancer operation and other treatments. Your breast care nurse will be able to give you further advice on how to attend our webinars. However, if you cannot attend, we do offer a recorded version which can be viewed below. We encourage people to attend the live sessions where possible so that you can ask any questions and we can support you.

If you watch the video and have questions, please contact us on 01246 512173.

Some people may have shoulder problems after certain breast cancer operations or treatments such as radiotherapy. Your breast care team will refer you to our therapy team if it is needed and we will be able to support you with exercises to help your shoulder recover.

Some people may have an operation if they have bowel cancer. Our Inspire Activity team provide a “prehabilitation” exercise programme for people having a bowel cancer operation. This programme gives you the chance to become fitter before an operation, which will help you to recover better. Our exercise classes are every week on Mondays and Fridays from 1pm.

They are fun and friendly and people really enjoy coming! People tell us that the support they receive, from others in the same situation as them, really helps in the time before an operation. Speak to your specialist nurse or surgeon for more details.

We are developing services to help people receiving treatment for some blood cancers, more information about this will appear on this website shortly.

If you have any questions about the services that we provide then please feel free to contact us by e-mail: crhft.inspireactivity@nhs.net or telephone 01246 512173
