Computed Tomography (CT) scans produce a 3D picture of your body using X-rays. The CT scanner is circular with a large hole in the middle and is open at both ends. CT is used to diagnose and monitor conditions and treatment. CT scanners can be used to image different parts of the body such as:
- Internal organs within the chest and abdomen such as the lungs, liver and bowel.
- Bone imaging such as the ankle/foot.
- Head and brain imaging.
- Vascular imaging to examine the blood flow.
- Specialised examinations of the colon and heart
The CT team consists of 35 specially trained staff, including Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and Clinical Assistants, working across both the CRH and Walton sites and providing around-the-clock service for emergency scans.
At Chesterfield Royal Hospital, we have 2 CT Scanners. We also have a CT Scanner at Walton Hospital for Community Diagnostics.
