Justin Cooke.jpegCardiac Rehabilitation is a really important way to help people with heart problems. It's proven to work well in making them feel better and live longer.

At Chesterfield Royal Hospital, our team of nurses and consultants specialise in taking care of hearts. They focus on giving exceptional care to patients by sharing helpful information about their heart issues, like heart attacks or surgeries.

The team helps patients right from when they come in with a heart problem. They talk to them about their problem, how they can get better and how to keep their heart healthy in the future.

Once patients go home, someone from the team checks on them to see how they're doing and helps with any questions. The team also set up appointments for cardiology patients to join a rehabilitation program which can be in person or over the phone.

Patients will be referred to a Cardiac Rehabilitation programme of their choice and an appointment will be posted out to them. Appointments are available both face-to-face and telephone.

The programme aims to help you:

  • Improve your knowledge of your cardiac condition and coronary heart disease.
  • Gain knowledge about what exercises you can do, what level you are at and how to increase this level at a pace right for you.
  • Regain your ability and confidence to participate in activities which you enjoy.
  • Improve your fitness levels.
  • Reduce any symptoms such as angina.
  • Improve your blood pressure.
  • Improve your breathing.
  • Advice and information about maintaining a healthy weight.

All patients who have completed a Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise programme can be referred to an appropriate maintenance exercise programme in their local area.
